North Yorkshire Rural Target Fund

The following information has been obtained from the
North Yorkshire Forum for Voluntary Organisations

The Rural Target Fund will operate across rural North Yorkshire
and will provide a single point of contact for rural communities
to apply for funding to support their work,
 particularly economic, social, community
 and environmental development initiatives.

It will be delivered jointly between
the Yorkshire Rural Community Council (YRCC)
and North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC),
funded by Yorkshire Forward and Objective 2.

The Rural Target Fund will consist of two elements:

1. Small Projects Fund:
for applications of between £200 and £5,000
for projects with maximum project costs of £20,000.

2. Main scheme:
for grants of between £5,001 and £50,000
for projects with maximum project costs of £75,000.

Both schemes have a grant intervention rate of up to 75%.

The Rural Target Fund eligible area will be the whole of rural North Yorkshire and York, excepting the urban centres of Harrogate and Scarborough and the urban area of the city of York that falls inside the outer ring road.

Applicants must be community groups, fully constituted and able to fundraise, although applications will be considered from umbrella organisations on behalf of a community group.

The overall aim of the fund is "to provide investment to rural communities in order to reduce disadvantage".
The specific objectives in order to meet this aim are:

  • To maintain and encourage the development of community space
  • To maintain and encourage the provision of services and facilities
  • To promote and enhance training opportunities
  • To encourage sustainable tourism development
  • To encourage local regeneration and environmental improvement
  • To connect residents to employment opportunities,
                                                       including through childcare
  • To support social inclusion
  • To promote and increase the use of ICT and broadband

There are specific targets for outputs, particularly for applications to the Main Scheme and within Objective 2 areas, which include job creation, learning opportunities and ICT initiatives and priority will be given to projects that are able to meet these outputs.
